BYU Young Ambassadors' New Mexico tour

The BYU Young Ambassadors are on a performing tour of New Mexico and west Texas.
Zach is sick and struggling to sing. Lousy timing. :(

Dave Barry writes about why you should NOT procrastinate getting a colonoscopy

Many people are familiar with the entertaining writing style of humor columnist Dave Barry. Here is an article he wrote about a year ago about his colonoscopy experience.

enduring hurt without hate

If it has not already happened to you, we will all surely have occasion in the months and years that lie ahead to suffer unfairly at the hands of others. Please watch this 6-1/2 minute video of President James Faust's last conference address on the topic of forgiveness. I invite you to join me in striving to live these principles that we may experience "the peace that passeth understanding."

CUSA performs at Nixon Library for Presidents Day

Celebration USA's Catch-the-Spirit Singers performed at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda on Presidents Day 2009 (Monday, February 16th). Kim is the vocal coach for this patriotic singing group. Zach use to sing with them before he went off to college. Check out photo 18 of 21.

You know, if I was the brother of a former president of the United States and was writing a book about my family and knew that I was going to be representing the family and signing books on Presidents Day, I think I might pay a visit to the dentist ahead of time. Checkout photo #20

2 Quick Trips to BYU

A week ago last Thursday, Kim and I flew up to Utah to watch Zach and the other BYU Young Ambassadors perform "The New Music Makers" production. It felt weird to be in wintery Utah only a few short hours after being in balmy Southern California. It didn't feel like we had paid the customary physical price (associated with the long drive) and suffered enough to be in Utah so quickly. We attended performances on both Thursday and Friday night. It was FABULOUS to watch Zach dance and to hear him sing. Thanks to both friends and family members for attending to support Zach.

Then this past Friday, as a Valentines Day gift to Kim, I agreed to accompany her on a road trip back up to BYU by car to watch the BYU MDT (Music Dance Theater) department's MDT Showcase 2009. Although Zach did well, we both thought the overall Showcase was not as good as the YA show the week before.

We drove back the next day (Saturday). We awoke to snow, and as you can tell by the attached photo taken at a Nephi gas station, we had to drive part of the way in a snow storm, but at least the roads weren't crowded. After safely completing this 2-day, 20 hour drive, 1,400 mile round trip journey, we definitely felt that this time we suffered enough to make us feel glad when we arrived back home.

the end of the rainbow!

The end of the rainbow has finally been located...on a toll-road in Orange County, California!
So, does this mean that the pot of gold reported to be at the end of the rainbow is nothing more than the tolls drivers pay to use the tollroad?! Ah, shucks.

We thank thee Oh God for a Prophet

I feel gratitude today that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have a divinely instituted succession process when a church leader dies. When our beloved President Gordon B. Hinckley died of cancer last year, there was a smooth and orderly transition to a new First Presidency of the Church, unlike this other famous church that is having major struggles.
