The Mormon Mass

Tonight Kim and I attended the Orange County Mormon Chorale Organization's (OCMCO) performance of "To Bring The World His Truth" held at the very impressive Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The event featured the three youth choirs, the Orange County Mormon Chorale, and the Orange County Mormon Symphony Orchestra. Tonight's performance included the world premiere of the "Messiah in America" oratorio, which was composed by Brett Stewart, the OCMCO conductor. He joked that some would call this the Mormon Mass.

Several members of our ward and others we know from our stake and beyond were among the performers. There were parts of the two hour performance that could have used a little more polish, but over all, it was very impressive and I am grateful to have been able to attend. The audience gave the performers a standing ovation with three call backs. I think they could have had a fourth call back, but the audience was tired of clapping so loud for so long, plus there was a second performance later tonight so they had to hurry and clear the concert hall and the parking structure to make room for those arriving for the second performance.
