As we fittingly remember the thousands whose lives were violently ended by an act of hate and terrorism 9 years ago, and honor the hundreds of thousands who responded to provide aid and assistance in the aftermath, let us remember that the ultimate solution to hatred is not more hatred, but love. It is one of the hardest doctrine's of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to strive to love those who consider themselves our enemy, even as we strive diligently to protect ourselves, our families, and our country from those who seek to destroy us.
Its also very important to resist the inclinations of the natural man or woman to stereotype people who are from the same part of the world, or have similar names, or believe in the same basic religion as those who consider themselves our enemy. Love is what ultimately bridges the gaps of differences and misunderstanding between people.
I watched a long, but worthwhile movie this past week that I recommend to my family and friends. The move is a fictional account of an autistic, Forrest Gump-like Muslim man and his life. In my opinion, the movie teaches an important message of love and tolerance, even if the ending is unnecessarily politicized. The name of the movie is "My Name is Khan". We rented it from RedBox for $1.
